Day 6: Friday, October 24
Friday is the Sabbath day in the Middle East. There aren't any members in the southern part of Jordan, so we did church in our hotel in Aqaba. We didn't check out 11:30. Then we drove up to Wadi Rum. We got set up with our guide and drove through the desert.
It is a beautiful, rugged desert.

We stopped at a big, red sand dune. The weather was perfect! Nice and cool.

Hyrum and I hanging out at the bottom. I broke a toe a little over a week before the trip and walking in sand did't feel so good.

Next, we went to a deep crack in the mountain.
Here we are just before going in. I pasted a lady walking out as we were going in. She told me it was way to dangerous for kids. There was a narrow ledge about 5 feet high you had to walk on. We all survived!

The kids found a good jumping spot. We must have sat there for 45 minutes! Hannah was a cute jumper.

Public bathrooms are usually pretty scary here. They had the nicest bathrooms we've seen in Jordan! We didn't expect that!
We ate dinner in a big tent. The food was pretty good. The kids even ate pretty good.
Day 7: Saturday, October 25
We got up and ate breakfast. Actually no one really liked it. We ate snacks in the car. It was a bit chilly.

Camel rides everywhere are pretty pricy. We worked out a much cheaper ride with this guy (He has 7 wives, and 20 children!).
We rode through the town to some ruins at the end of the town. It was only about a 20 minute ride.

We tried to get a fun picture of all of us on camels but they weren't getting the idea!

After the camel ride, we went to a sand dune. WEsat in the shade for a few hours while the kids played.

I was digging a hole for Hannah and Hyrum would come over and sit in it. I'd scoot over and start again and he'd get up and come sit in it again! Funny boy! He loved getting buried!

You can find junk everywhere. Hannah found an old tea kettle. She had so much fun filling it with sand and pouring it out. Maybe I should have brought it home with us and given it to her for Christmas!

We sat across from the big sand dune. It was fun to watch how far some of the trucks could make it up. It made me think of my Dad!
The bottom line is... kids love sand!
After we went back to the camp that evening, we went exploring around the back side of the mountain.
The rocks were really neat!
We hiked uo to the top. Hannah and Hyrum didn't make it. Josh went up and then he stayed with the little kids so I could go see the view.

The boy in the back gave Josh a bird that he caught. It was a gift. (The older boy was our guide the whole time. Very nice kid.)

We were able to have a small fire the second night. We roasted marshmallows. The family that takes care of the camp are Syrian refugees. They had 3 small boys. We introduced their older 2 to roasted marshmallows. They loved them!
Day 8: Sunday, October 26
It was Josh's birthday! We got up early and got ready to leave. The kids wanted to get Josh a present. They decided to get him an ugly rock because Josh would roll his eyes at all the kids dumb rocks. So they wraped it up in a diaper with a few pieces of candy. They gave him the diaper and he promptly walked over to the trash can to throw it in. The kids yelled that it was his present. He's a fun Dad and has taught his kids how to play jokes on people. We ended up celebrating his birthday the next day at home.
We had a great time in Wadi Rum (but we were very ready to go home)!
